2008 sees St Helen's RLFC start Paul Sculthorpe celebrate his testimonial year after 10 years with the club. In order to commemorate this momentus achievement various celebratory events were planned including the James Edward Land Rover Sportsman's Kitchen.
Guests were welcomed with a Champagne and Canape reception at the James Edward Dealership in Chester before taking to their seats for the Sportsman's Kitchen challenge, hosted by the evening's compere; Kim Hughes of City Talk Radio, Liverpool.
The green kitchen was led by celebrity chef Aldo Zilli and he was joined by director of Sporting Image Ltd - Mike 'Braddy' Bradshaw. Local chef and restaurateur Nigel Smith headed up the red kitchen with Paul Sculthorpe assisting. Both teams were give a bag of ingredients from which they had to create a culinary masterpiece.
When the time was up the audience used voting cards to cast their vote and as the red kitchen was named winner 'contestant' Paul Sculthorpe was presented with a knife set by Simon Caine; Dealer Principal of James Edwards Land Rover.
Following the competition guests were treated to a selection of mini-pots including: Lancashire Hot Pot and Mini Fish & chips followed by miniature desserts.
All proceeds from the event were split between Tommy's Baby Charity (Paul Sculthorpe's adopted charity) and the British Red Cross.
